PRTC Weekly: 04/24/2017 Valley Forge Results and More

Valley Forge Recap

The 2017 Grand Prix Challenge continued this weekend at the historic Valley Forge National Park. PRTC made a valiant effort to stay atop the leaderboard, but ultimately dropped to second behind Greater Philadelphia Track Club. We’re just one point back and confident we can retake first with Broad Street coming up next!
The weather couldn’t have been more ideal as 10 PRTC members took the start at the Valley Forge Revolutionary 5 Miler. Joe Binder and Kevin Brandon set the pace for the men’s team. Joe and Kevin swapped positions numerous times throughout the race with Joe expertly barreling down the hills and Kevin catching up on the rises. Mike Vido tailed closely behind catching the pair at the 4 mile marker and ultimately beating out Kevin for 5th place and scoring team Grand Prix points. Lucas Bryant came back from a Saturday 5k (15:05! *short course*) and ran 27:26, a good sign for Broad Street. This brought the men’s spread to just 18 seconds!
Margaret Vido beat out Bryn Mawr’s Spring Greeney for first place with Sam Roecker hanging back to take third in what was more a tempo effort than full-on race. Jamie Morgenstern shaved 10 seconds off her 2016 Valley Forge performance and landed 4th place. Ashton Hughes made her Valley Forge debut with a strong age group win. Lauren Eckberg also claimed a 1st place age group result and looks well-placed to perform well at Broad Street. Aliah Molczan bettered her 2016 Valley Forge result by an impressive margin of 31 seconds and earned a 2nd place age group finish.
Perhaps most importantly, all enjoyed a well appointed post-race vendor scene and many of the day’s racers stopped for brunch and a courtesy beer at McKenzie’s Brewpub before heading home.
