What a weekend! PRTC took on the Frostbite Five Mile with vigor. One immediate thing was discovered, the club likes racing in 50+ degree weather in February! Supporting evidence:
On the men’s side, Matthew Bell donned a PRTC singlet for the first time and commemorated the occasion by winning the race. He beat out Bryn Mawr’s Eric Arnold by 9 seconds crossing the line in 25:14. Frostbite concluded Matt’s season as he heads to Kuwait this Friday for a 3 month Air Force deployment. We’re already looking forward to having him back, so safe travels from all of us at PRTC! Next up, Sean Clark raced his first event in months and achieved another strong Frostbite performance. He took 4th overall (1st age group!) and looks set up well for upcoming races. Paul Matusczak followed in 6th and spearheaded the post-race PRTC men’s workout. Paul is currently training for the USATF 50k Championships. Mike Vido followed in 27:05 and along with Pat McLaughlin (27:16; suffering from a suspect pre-race meal) also completed the post-race workout.
PRTC’s women’s squad did nothing short of dominate the results. We took 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th and 9th. Sam Roecker and Margaret Vido formed an alliance at the start and worked together throughout the race. This resulted in Sam taking the win and setting a course record (non-trail route; by 28 seconds). Margaret closed in behind and secured a reported 5k PR in the 5 mile race. Next in was long-lost PRTC member Chrissie Ramsey. Chrissie (4-time Frostbite winner; most-recent course record holder; unknown route) last competed for the club in 2005. She took 3rd this time around and we’re thrilled she’s able to run with us. Jamie Morgenstern scored 4th and was rewarded with 1st in her age group. Similarly, Meghan Bishop placed 6th and came in 1st for her age group. Bethany Clark was next in and placed third in her division. Ashton Hughes (who, let it be known, suffered from the flu all week) still brought home 1st in her age group. Dynise Balcavage mirrored Bethany’s result with her own 3rd place age group score.
Thanks to all who came out to race. We certainly kicked off the 2017 Grand Prix Challenge in fashion! Next up: Adrenaline 5k
