PRTC Weekly: 01/15/2017 Outstanding Open Club of the Year and More

Outstanding Open Club of the Year

We are pleased to announce that PRTC has won USATF Mid-Atlantic’s Kim Gallagher Award for Outstanding Open Club of the Year! This award is a surprise and a much appreciated recognition. Thanks to everyone for their hard work, talent and team spirit!
PRTC was selected by the association’s special awards committee out of more than 40 eligible clubs within the Mid-Atlantic region. Kim Gallagher (1964-2002) was an Olympic athlete from Philadelphia. She won silver in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and bronze in 1988 in Seoul (both in the 800m).  The award will be presented at a luncheon this coming Saturday at the George Clay Firehouse in Conshohocken. Cost to attend is $35. Here is the text that will be read during the presentation:
“Philadelphia Runner Track Club / PUMA (PRTC) earned 2nd place in Mid-Atlantic‘s Grand Prix Club Challenge – an amazing feat considering the difficult age-graded standards for such young runners! 29 of their 31 runners in the Grand Prix were in their 20’s and 30’s, 25 in their 20’s. Those same runners also excelled in the Grand Prix’s individual and Age-Group competitions. In August, PRTC also won the Philly Mayor’s Cup team distance competition.
Some noteworthy individual race performances from 2016: Margaret Vido’s Runner’s World Half-Marathon win; Samantha Roecker’s 19th female overall placing in the NYC Marathon (8th American!) and Paul Matuszak’s 11th place Philadelphia Marathon finish as well as his Shamrock Marathon 1st place finish.
Congratulations to PRTC, Outstanding Open Club of the Year!”
