USATF Club XC Nationals Recap
For the first time in many years, PRTC sent a women’s team to USATF Club XC Nationals. We’re happy to report that they didn’t wait long to make up for lost time. Led by Sam, the women’s team placed 15th in a competitive national field.
Sam, surprising some, but not all, placed very well among the overall field. Her time of 20:39 earned a place solidly among the top 30. Her 27th place finish marked the close of a very good fall season. Next in was Margaret, soldiering on after a recent top performance at the Philadelphia Marathon. Margaret ran well and placed 85th with a time of 21:50. Meghan followed close behind fighting off a recent cold and earned a spot well within the top 100 at 90th overall. Jamie, was next to cross the line, having flow in from Spain. Jamie ran well and importantly realized her goal of helping a PRTC women’s team score at nationals. This was achieved after many 2015 runs as the sole participating women on the club team. A remarkable accomplishment! Kylie and Ashton came in together earning 148th and 149th respectively. Nice job to both, and to Ashton whose time marked a sizable season PR!
On the men’s side, Mike and Kevin faced off against a field of 307. Both enjoyed the well designed course and trip. Mike came back for one last race after a strong marathon in Philadelphia just weeks ago. Kevin, for his part, nearly avoided getting lapped during the 4 loop course and is thankful his 2016 season is over.
We have much to look forward to in 2017! For those wondering, the national meet is slated to be held in Kentucky.
Trip Highlights: Plenty of Florida sun; Spanish moss; team drinks; trecking across Tallahassee with Sam Chelanga to the after-party; 2 alligator sightings and seeing many friends.
