PRTC Weekly: 09/04/2016 (Quad XC, Fall Planning and More)

Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial end of summer. While I have a feeling we haven’t quite escaped the heat, today’s weather was a nice glimpse of what we have to look forward to. As we enter the fall season, be sure to keep an eye on ourrace calendar for upcoming PRTC race dates.

Last Tuesday night, the men and women had a great hill workout. In particular, the women put together an impressive pack by switching leaders for each repeat and sharing the burden of attacking the steep hills. With the PRTC women developing so quickly, they will surely surprise many during this upcoming race/xc season! Turnout for the Sunday long run was also encouraging (particularly for a holiday weekend!). Several new men joined us for a very pleasant 13+ mile run as well as one new woman.

In other good news, we will soon regain access to Franklin Field at Penn for Tuesday night workouts. We’re looking forward to reconnecting with our Penn Running Club friends as well as restarting team workouts on the track.

To our newer email list members: If you’d like to sign up for the club, register with us through USATF. It’s just $30 and well worth the cost. As a member, you’ll be eligible to score for us in Mid-Atlantic Grand Prix events and compete at USATF XC races. In return, you’ll be on the official PRTC roster and eligible for waived entry fees for select races as well as other perks. Our club number is 82.

Next Week: Quad XC 5k

This coming Saturday kicks off team XC season! For those of us who haven’t had enough of this fun course in prior lives, Bryn Mawr’s Quad XC 5k is a great early opportunity to race at Philly’s Belmont Plateau. In a twist, the event is “European Style XC” (hay bales/obstacles) and offers team scoring and prizes!

Teams must have at least 3 people. The women have already formed more than a full team and the men are looking for at least one more participant. Sign up for the men’s or women’s email list if you’d like to be in the loop for further planning.
