This week PRTC took on the Philly 10k. All enjoyed the race in South Philly which attracted a field of several thousand runners. The day was particularly sweet for PRTC as two of our own claimed top male and female finishers.
With the Philly 10k in the books, be sure to keep an eye on our race calendar for all the details on upcoming fall races.
Lastly, in recent weeks, we’ve had a number of new athletes join us for workouts and runs. If you’d like to sign up for the club, take some time to register with us through USATF. It’s just $30 and well worth the cost. As a member, you’ll be eligible to score for us in Mid-Atlantic Grand Prix events and compete in USATF XC races. In return, you’ll be featured on PRTC’s official roster and eligible for waived entry fees for select races. We’re also working on expanding our uniform / apparel offerings.
Philly 10k Race Report
Women: Margaret V did not disappoint, consistently pacing her way to victory in a time of 36:04. She noted that running through the streets of Philadelphia clear of cars and people was a unique experience, and is excited by PRTC’s good turnout so early in the season.
Laureen K powered through the sticky morning air to finish fourth overall, showing a promising start to her first non-marathon season in some time. She was closely followed by Jamie M in fifth, whose general snarkiness was kept in check by an abundance of custard at the finish. Liz N, completing what she said was the toughest race she’s run in recent memory, still muscled out a 9th place finish. Bethany C, finishing the race in 12th, looked fit as the summer gallops toward her fall goal race of the Chicago Marathon.
Margaret Vido: 36:06 (1st!) Kelly: 38:14 (4th)
Jamie Morgenstern: 38:18 (5th)
Liz Novack: 39:23 (9th)
Bethany Clark: 40:30 (12th)
Men: Charlie M led the men this week by cruising to a comfortable win in a time of 33:14. In doing so, Charlie achieved redemption from last year’s DNF due to a mishap relating to course directions. Charlie looked strong throughout the race and easily fended off challenges from the rest of the field. Accompanying Charlie at the winner’s circle was member Andrew V visiting us from New Haven, CT. Andrew churned out a solid 33:29, a nice result for an opening race and good for 3rd overall.
Mike V arrived at the finish line in 34:43 also marking a successful debut for the fall season. To make things even better he took 4th place AND retained the contents of his stomach (something in question before the starting gun was fired). Lucas B, having just returned from “altitude training” in Colorado managed 5th and Sean Clark made a welcome return to club running with his first race since a spring injury. Sean crossed the line in 6th. Lastly, Kevin B closed out the day in 9th falling back in the field after a hopeful start as returning to last year’s fitness levels continued to prove elusive.
Charlie Murphy: 33:14 (1st!)
Andrew Van Hoogenstyn: 33:29 (3rd)
Mike Vido: 34:43 (4th)
Lucas Bryant: 35:07 (5th)
Sean Clark: 35:22 (6th)
Kevin Brandon: 35:58 (9th)
