PRTC Weekly: 08/07/2016 (Mayor’s Cup Preview, Election and Sea Isle Success)

Mayor’s Cup
Next weekend is the much awaiting Mayor’s Cup! Race day is Saturday August. The races are: Half Marathon Trail (7:00 AM), 10 Mile Road (8:15 AM), 10k Trail (9:15 AM), 5 Mile Road (9:45 AM), and 5k XC (10:15 AM). PRTC will be facing off against 36 others clubs for bragging rights to Philadelphia’s fastest running club. The top male and female in each club score in each event.

Not racing? No problem, join us anyway for the fun stuff. We’ll have food, beer and will hopefully be doing a fair amount of celebrating!

As mentioned previously, the club is gearing up to elect a new board. We are seeking a President, Communications Director, Treasurer as well as both a Women’s and Men’s Captain. If you are interested in running for one of these positions, please email one of the current board members for more info.
The election opens tomorrow, so please let us know as soon as possible if you’d like to be involved!

Race Results
Congratulations to Paul Matuszak for taking top spot at the Captain Bill Gallagher 10 mile island run in Sea Isle, New Jersey. With a race start time of 5:30 PM and the entire course on the beach, this is not your typical race. Even so, Paul defended his title from last year with a time of 57:57.

Fellow teammate, Pat McLaughlin placed 5th in the race. It was his first race of the summer and he finished with a successful time of 1:01:50.

Final Thoughts

The 2016 Olympics have officially kicked off in Rio de Janeiro. This means my television will more or less be permanently tuned to NBC for the next two weeks. So far, white water rafting wins favorite never before watched event. Track starts Friday!
