PRTC Weekly: 08/01/2016 (Mayor’s Cup, New Logo & More!)

PRTC and Friends,

After a brief summer hiatus, the weekly email has returned! Despite the warm weather and lack of emails, we’ve been busy. Check out this issue for a briefing on Mayor’s Cup plans, the upcoming club election, information on an upgrade to the website/roster page, the next Grand Prix race, USATF Club XC Nationals, and an interview with our good friend Nathan Ennist. Also, as a bonus, scroll down for an early look at our new club logo!

Mayor’s Cup is fast approaching. For the uninitiated, this is a city-wide competition to determine the quickest running club in Philly. Last year, we took second place under a questionable scoring system and have learned our lesson. We’ve been busy crafting an imposing roster (with redundancies) and are hungry to take the title. The race is on August 13th and all are invited. Not ready to race yet? No problem! This event is not just about bragging rights. With 37 clubs participating and 5 races (5k XC, 5-mile road, 10k XC, 10-mile road and half-marathon trail) Mayor’s Cup is a unique celebration of Philadelphia running. Spectators are in for a treat and we’re excited to put on a strong showing in both the race and as a member of Philadelphia’s running community. This is a great opportunity to check in with the club and catch up with old and future friends. Still need motivation? There will be plenty of food, beer and celebrating to enjoy at the conclusion of the day’s races!

To sign up for Mayor’s Cup click this link and register for the race of your choosing. Our club password is Ludlow. Not sure what race to run or have questions about the day’s events? Feel free to reach out to Kevin or Jamie.

ElectionsWe are getting ready to position the club for the fall XC season and beyond. At this time, we’re searching for leaders within the club to help PRTC set and achieve future goals. We are looking to fill five seats on our board of directors: President, Treasurer, Communications Director, Men’s Captain and Women’s Captain. If you are interested in getting involved, email and let us know which seat you’d like to run for. We need all interested candidates to announce by August 8th. On that date, an email or “ballot” will be sent to club members featuring an anonymous poll. The poll will be open all week long. The election will conclude on August 13th at Mayor’s Cup. We will distribute a paper ballot on race day to all who were unable vote during the week. Results will be announced at the conclusion of the day’s races.

This fall is shaping up to be an exciting time for the club. Interest in our group continues to grow at a steady pace and our sponsors show signs of increasing support. We hope you’ll consider playing a part in PRTC’s history as we look to write the next chapter for the club.

Website Improvements (Roster Section): Jamie and Nabil have been hard at work bringing PRTC’s web presence into the 21st century. In the last week, we’ve had three new inquiries about the club through the website. Most recently, Jamie has worked some magic and is just about ready to upgrade our roster page. We last asked you to send us info for the roster page over a year ago. We have attracted a number of new members since then and Jamie’s awesome prototype requires some additional information. If you’d like to be included on our new roster page, please send Jamie an email with a race photograph (preferably in PRTC gear) and your hometown, high school, college, occupation, personal best and running goals as applicable.

Grand Prix – PRTC currently sits in 2nd place in the Grand Prix standings. We’ve participated in 4 of 5 races so far and are in a tight race with Athena for best average score. By the end of the series, we should be positioned near the top, but will need to perform at our best to take the title (and collect the winner’s bounty!). The next Grand Prix race is the Delaware Distance Classic (15k) on Sunday, October 9th at 9am. We’ll soon announce a race captain for the event, but please consider putting this one on the calendar. More info on the race is available at

USATF Club XC Nationals – Lastly, one of our biggest events of the year is USATF Club XC Nationals. In 2016, swampy Tallahassee will be hosting the race. PRTC will be sending both a men’s and women’s team to this event. The race isDecember 10th at Apalachee Regional Park. We’ll coordinate travel, housing and other details as the race gets closer, but please consider putting this great event on the calendar as well.

Final Thoughts / Conclusion – As always, check out the appropriate email lists for information about weekly runs. We leave you with a sneak peak at our new logo (courtesy of Ross and Philadelphia Runner). PUMA has also been kind enough to provide the club with some new gear. It is looking like we’ll be able to introduce new women’s uniforms (with the updated logo) in time for Mayor’s Cup. The men will have to wait a bit longer, but we will soon have a whole new look. Let us know what you think!
